Our Story
A Lifelong Connection to Dewata Beach
Dewata Beach is more than just the home of Jumani Surf School. It’s where our founder, Mani, grew up, discovered surfing and developed a lifelong connection with the ocean.
After years of teaching surfing and exploring surf destinations across Sri Lanka and around the world, Mani founded Jumani Surf School in December 2019 to share his passion for surfing at the place he knows best.
Today, Jumani welcomes visitors to experience surfing, develop their skills and enjoy the relaxed coastal atmosphere of Dewata Beach in Galle, Sri Lanka.
What started as a surf school has grown to include surfboard rentals and a beachside café, bringing surfing and coastal relaxation together in one place.
Meet Mani — Founder & Surf Instructor
Local Knowledge, Professional Experience
With over 20 years of surfing experience and more than a decade of teaching, Mani brings extensive practical knowledge and a genuine passion for surfing to Jumani Surf School.
Having grown up at Dewata Beach, he has developed a strong understanding of the local waves and changing surf conditions. His experience surfing at different locations across Sri Lanka and internationally has further broadened his knowledge of the ocean.
As a qualified surf instructor and lifeguard, Mani combines professional training with a friendly, encouraging approach to helping students learn and progress.

Lifesaving training, including German lifeguard certification.

Our Approach to Teaching Surfing
Learn, Progress and Enjoy Every Wave
At Jumani, we believe learning to surf should be an enjoyable experience, whether you’re stepping onto a surfboard for the first time or working to improve your technique.
Our lessons combine instruction on the beach with practical coaching in the water. Beginners learn essential skills such as positioning, paddling and standing up, while more experienced surfers can focus on improving their technique, wave selection and control.
With guidance and individual feedback from experienced instructors, students can develop their skills at a pace suited to their experience and the day’s surf conditions.
Our goal is to help every student build confidence, improve their surfing and enjoy their time in the ocean.
